Their widespread diffusion in Sicily and extensive historical use in the regional cuisine have led the Ministry of Agriculture to recognise the prickly pear as a typical Sicilian product. Renowned for its properties, the prickly pear is an expression of warmth, joie de vivre and the beauty of the wonderful land of Italy. The Etna prickly pear (PDO) is a succulent plant which grows in particular profusion around the Sicilian coast.
